Over the weekend several swimmers competed at the Ontario Cup meet held at the U of T pool. This was a long course racing tune up for several Olympic trials hopefuls and a taste of senior swimming for our younger swimmers moving up in the ranks. TSC swimmers were well represented throughout the meet in both senior and youthful ranks.

Top of the podium swims were posted by Tobias Oriwol-200 fr, Warren Barnes-100 and 200 breast, Frank Despond- 400 fr, Zach Summerhayes- 200 IM, Jeremie Holdom- 400 IM, Heather Maitland- 200 and 400 fr and Vanessa Treasure- 200 fly. Other medal swims were posted by Mike Smerek- 2nd 50-100 fly, Andrea Jurenovskis- 2nd 50 fr, 3rd -200 fr, 50-100 back, Austin Rockett 2nd 200 fly as well as Oliver Straszynski 2nd – 400-1500 fr. Oliver also qualified for Olympic trials with his 1500 time!

Other younger swimmers of note were Tyler Tong-McDermott (200 breast), Vanessa Gold (400-800 fr) and Cino Ling (200 back) who all were very close to hitting their Olympic Trials standards. These efforts are especially encouraging being it’s the middle of January and the midst of heavy training portion of the championship run. Strong training swims were posted by Edward Liu (100-200 fr), Nathalin Moy (100-200 fly), Lukasz Kosiorek (100 fr), Simone Cseplo (100 fr, 100 back), Jillian Stoyan (100 breast, 200 IM), Edgar Flores (100 fly), Bronwyn Colford (200 fr and 400 IM), Zoe Rivard-Aslin (50 fr) and David Riley (100 breast).
